A special professional tour for Directors of Cultural Services, Librarians, Museum Curators and Archivists

Based in Liverpool - European City of Culture 2008
The tour will focus on the professional background to the cultural facilities of Liverpool - European City of Culture 2008.
Visits will be arranged to a range of cultural venues where there will be  opportunities for discussions with senior staff. It is hoped to include visits to Liverpool Central Library and Archives; National Museums North; St Georges Hall; Liverpool cultural services department; Speke Hall; Lever Art Gallery, Port Sunlight; Liverpool University library. An excursion to the Ribble Valley (Tolkien’s Middle Earth) and the seaside resort of Blackpool could include visits to the Pendle Heritage Centre; Clitheroe Castle and North-West Sound Archives; Blackpool Tower and Illuminations. A proposed conference will provide an opportunity to meet cultural services professionals from North West England.
A Russian-speaking guide will meet participants at Heathrow and accompany the group throughout the tour. Conference interpretation from English to Russian is not expected to be available. (Special rates will be available to a participant who is a proficient interpreter willing to undertake interpretation for the group.)
Draft Timetable:
13 Sep Sat Arrive London Heathrow, train to Liverpool.
14 Sep Sun Liverpool tour including cathedrals. Mersey boat trip.
15 Sep Mon Visit plus Conference
16 Sep Tue Conference plus visit
17 Sep  Wed Liverpool Visits
18 Sep Thu Liverpool Visits
19 Sep Fri Pendle and Blackpool tour
20 Sep Sat Train to Watford, Return to Moscow.
Participants will be responsible for arranging their own flights to and from the UK and UK Visas. Invitations to support applications for UK visas will be provided.
The tour price will include all scheduled travel costs after arrival in the UK, conference registration and accommodation, hotel charges for bed and breakfast on non-conference days, all scheduled visits. Assistance can be provided to any participants who wish to extend their UK visit on a private basis.
